LSG’s Pant Creates History with Twin Centuries in Headingley Match

Rishabh Pant raises bat after scoring century for India in Headingley Test against England

The Indian team plays the first of five Test matches against England. Headingley hosts it, and on June 23, wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant (he plays for LSG in the IPL) made history by scoring two hundreds in both innings of a Test clash. It is a first for the Men in Blue (on English soil), and only the second worldwide.

Magnificent Pant

The Test between the Men in Blue and the Three Lions saw many achievements from both squads. But especially the fans were enthralled by Pant’s performance. He scored 134 runs in the first innings and then reached 118 runs in the second. With this, Rishabh joined Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower as the only players to have managed to score two hundreds in a Test clash. Flower managed to do so in 2001 in the game against South Africa.

Impressive Achievement

Pant’s two hundreds put him in the elite list of Indian cricketers who have managed to reach two hundreds in a Test match. It also includes legends such as Sunil Gavaskar (who achieved this feat three times), Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Rohit Sharma. Having said that, Rishabh has surpassed all of them, thanks to the fact that he is the only Indian player to have amassed two centuries on English soil.

What’s Next

After the match at Headingley, the teams will play in Birmingham (July 2-6), London (Lord’s, July 10-14), and Manchester (July 23-27). The fifth clash will again take place in London, but now at The Oval (July 31-August 4).
