Edgbaston Test, Day 2. Shubman Gill and Akash Deep Lead India’s Charge

Shubman Gill and Akash Deep Lead India’s Charge

India is playing the second Test of the series against England these days. The match was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham and was marked by a fantastic performance from Shubman Gill. Playing in the IPL for Gujarat Titans (GT), the player scored 269 runs, allowing the Men in Blue to reach an impressive total of 587. Meanwhile, the Indian bowlers, particularly Akash Deep, also showed excellent play.

Fantastic Gill

For Gill, the second day of the Test at Edgbaston was historic. He had one of the best Test innings by an Indian batter in England, scoring 269 runs. In eight and a half hours, the player faced 387 deliveries. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (89) laid a serious foundation for the dominance of the Men in Blue. The team eventually reached 587 in 151 overs. This is its highest Test match score in England since 2007.

Akash Deep’s Double Strike

England’s response to India’s massive total got off to a disastrous start, thanks to Akash Deep’s fiery spell. After a quiet first over, Deep struck twice in two consecutive deliveries. He first had Ben Duckett edging a sharp away-seamer to Gill at third slip. After that, the cricketer dismissed Ollie Pope with a fuller delivery that took the edge to KL Rahul, who completed the catch on the second attempt.

With England reeling at 13/2, Mohammed Siraj added to their woes by removing Zak Crawley for 19. Siraj’s delivery shaped away just enough to catch the edge, with Karun Nair taking the catch in the cordon. England found themselves in deep trouble at 25/3 after just 8 overs. The team ended the day with a score of 77/3 in 20 overs and continued to concede 510 runs to India.
