IPL 2025: Travis Head’s COVID-19 Diagnosis Sidelined Him for SRH vs LSG Clash

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked up their fourth win of the 18th IPL season on Tuesday, May 20. The team was stronger than Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets (206/4 against 205/7. By doing so, it avenged this opponent to whom it lost 205/7 on March 27. For LSG, this is their fourth straight loss. It officially eliminated them from playoff contention despite having two games in hand.

Head did not play for SRH 

The Sunrisers’ victory was made more valuable by the fact that one of its leaders, the leading opener, Travis Head did not take part in the match. Before the match it became known that the player tested positive for COVID-19. This was reported to journalists by the head coach of the team Daniel Vettori.

Season Highlights and Difficulties 

The current season is turning out to be a tough one for both SRH and Head. Last year he was almost unstoppable. Travis scored 567 runs at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 191.55. But in 2025, he failed to come close to that amazing form. At the time of the news that he had contracted a coronavirus, the player amassed 289 runs in 11 matches at an average of 28.10 (strike rate of 156.11). Despite maintaining a commitment to aggressive play, Head did not demonstrate stability or rhythm. This had a significant impact on the Sunrisers’ top order. 

SRH had lost their chances of qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs as recently as last week. They have four wins in 12 matches and just 9 points. Only Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are worse off – both teams have 6 points each.
