Samson to Play in KCL 2025 Following Injury-Plagued IPL Campaign

Last IPL season turned out to be a disappointing one for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The team finished ninth out of ten teams with 8 points in 14 matches, failing to qualify for the playoffs. One of its leaders, captain Sanju Samson, also cannot boast of a successful season as injuries plagued him as the season progressed. The player has decided to regain his form and has registered for the upcoming Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 auction. He expects that this decision will also help him return to playing for India at the international level.
Motivations Decisions
As mentioned above, the past IPL season turned out to be a tough one for Samson. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter suffered from a fractured finger and an abdominal injury. This forced the RR coaching staff to use him mainly as an Impact Sub. It is possible that the player’s omission from several matches prevented his team from reaching the top-4 of the championship. Sanju’s performance also left much to be desired – he scored just one half-century and was relegated to #3 in the batting order of the franchise.
Having said that, Samson did not look convincing before the start of the IPL season either. He amassed only 51 runs in the five-match Test clash against England. Experts and fans are predicting that this could be a threat to the player’s prospects of participating in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Sanju expects that his participation in the KCL can help him regain his form and be an essential step towards his return to the Indian national team. He has time, as the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled for the end of the year, and the national team will be resting in September.
